Now automatically report invalid SSL certificates to Google

Google Chrome contains a list of expected SSL certificate information for a varieties of high-value websites in an effort to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks.

For Google websites in particular, Chrome will alert Google to a possible attack by sending information about the SSL certificate chain to our security team if the certificate provided by the web server doesn’t match the expected signature.

Chrome also allows users to choose to send information that helps us improve our SSL warnings and error pages.

You can opt in to this feature by checking a checkbox on any SSL error page.

While you are opted-in, the SSL certificate chain, the server’s hostname, the local time, and relevant details about the validation error and SSL error page type will be sent to our security team every time you see an SSL error page.

You can opt out anytime by unchecking the box of “Automatically report details of possible security incidents to google” in Privacy setting.
