Google WebLight – A lighter web experience

WebLight is a Google’s initiative to give a speedy internet experience to
android users with limited data bandwidth.

This feature really helps android mobile users still using the 2G internet
connection as it optimize the website being launched in the Google Chrome
browser.

The program was launched initially in Indonesia, but its success there made
Google decide to implement the same in India where a huge population of
internet users is still using low speed internet connections.

Google claims that, “the optimized web pages loaded four times faster,
using eighty percent less data than before”.

This comes as a savior for sow Internet connections, making a significant
difference to performance and the overall usability of the Internet.

The weblight technology works by parsing the whole webpage through its own
servers before displaying in the browser window and transcoding it to
reduce the size. The technology removes a few unwanted elements including
more than three advertisements per page.

Thus the android browser renders all relevant elements the user really
wants to see with optimized data usage.
