Credit and debit card fraud cases top the chart of cybercrimes. There has been a sixfold increase in such cases over the past three years. Cyber criminals are devising novel ways to mislead innocent consumers to obtain sensitive credit/debit card details. A new vishing campaign is being observed in the wild these days in which the victim receive a call in the name of Banks or visa/MasterCard service departments stating that the reward points are going to expire in a couple of days.
To avoid the expiry of the reward points, they are going to make a cashback to your card and for verification they need some card details like cvv, expiry date, registered mobile number etc. There you go!!
Vishing Calls Scenarios
- Call from MasterCard and Visa service department that the reward points are going to expire in a couple of days
- Call stating that ICICI Bank is closing their reward program and the rewards will be credited in your account as cash
- Call claiming to be from HDFC Credit card division stating reward points on the card are about to expire
- Call from KOTAK CREDIT CARD Reward Points Redemption Team
BEWARE of Cyber Criminals
- Banks will never send any e-mails or call asking you for confidential details of your account/ PIN/ Password/OTP/URN or personal details such as date of birth, mother’s maiden name etc.
- Beware of anyone asking you for such information on behalf of the bank through e-mails or phone calls.
- Please do not respond to any email requesting such information.
