Latest Updates: Coronavirus in Singapore

Recently China is hit by the outbreak of a deadly new virus named Coronavirus. As per experts, the symptoms of the virus include runny nose, fever, sore throat, cough. This pneumonia-like feeling is making the world worry as its more than normal disease and has even proven to be deadly.
Millions of people across the globe are at the risk of getting infected by this dangerous virus infection.
WHO officials say coronavirus spread outside of China as a serious concern. As per reports, the deadly novel coronavirus has so reached 18 countries.
As per CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), the treatment available specifies the following:

There are no specific treatments for illness caused by human coronavirus. Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own. However, you can do some things to relieve your symptoms

  • take pain and fever medications (Caution: do not give Aspirin to children)
  • use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough
Everyone is getting more worried as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread with more than 49053 confirmed cases from 24 countries outside China (as on 14th Feb). The figure below shows the spread of confirmed coronavirus cases across the world.

  • As per WHO, Singapore is said to have 58 confirmed cases by now with 8 new cases reported, which is the second-highest count after China (40 235)
  • 22 of reported cases have travel history to China, while 36 total cases have been confirmed with transmission outside of China
  • Singapore has updated disease outbreak response level to orange, meaning the situation to have moderate to high public health impact as the coronavirus continues to spread further within the country.
  • As per MOH, in all, seven have fully recovered patients from the infection and have been discharged from hospital.
