The growing state of computer vulnerabilities

Vulnerability is a major attack vector for cyber criminals.

Vulnerability is a weakness of an asset or group of assets that can be exploited by one or more threats. In terms of computer systems, It is classified as a security risk to the computer architecture including both software and hardware aspects.

The landscape of computer vulnerabilities is widening every year as can be noted from the figure below:

Attackers continuously focus on exploiting high severity vulnerabilities as the impact factor is more severe in these cases in contrast to the medium and low severity vulnerabilities.

The graph below depicts that the discovery of high severity vulnerabilities by the attackers is maintaining its pace across years.

Researches in the black market are working hard to unearth more and more vulnerabilities of severe nature, alongside product vendors are giving equal importance to the same by launching frequent bug bounty programs.

This pro-activeness has benefited the consumer by reducing the gap between the exploitation of the vulnerability by the attackers and the relevant patch to subside the same being available.
